Augmented man

There have been a number of notable transitions in the evolution of mankind. The most recent one being from homo erectus to homo sapiens around 250,000 years ago.

I think we are in the process of the next transition. In very recent years we have started to augment our natural state. The idea of carrying a sundial around with us or a bakelite telephone might have seemed ridicuous at the time but now we feel naked if we leave home without timekeeping and communication capability.

Technology is evolving to make our lives healthier, quicker and even even richer. Wearables come to mind. But as Google glasses, become Google contact lenses and eventually Google eyes the boundary between us and the technology will blur.

Thus I believe the next phase in our evolution might be called 'Augmented man'. Be warned Augmented man is going to be a very demanding citizen, customer and user.
