Big data – Help me!
Harvard Business Review recently contained an article berating the IT function over how it fumbles analytics / big data projects. Specifically it highlights that whilst the IT department approach to building IT systems broadly works (heavily caveated), taking the same approach to information projects does not.
The article really highlights that CIOs and their people need to move up the value chain from technology management to information leadership.
It also highlights the need to be more service-oriented. Building and delivering IT systems and then waiting by the phone until an issue or update is required is not good enough. Users want help in gaining insight from the information the systems deliver.
This is article is a clarion call for the IT function to switch gears and engage with the business.
