BYOD – Bring Your Own Datacentre
The enterprise end-game is in full swing. The main players including IBM, Cisco, EMC, Microsoft and HP to name a few are jostling for a piece of the datacentre and.the Cloud. They figure that the game is to be one of a handful of super-utilities serving mips and megabytes to the world's largest corporations.
However in parallel with this vendor-centric game is the growing wave of user/consumer activism in respect of determining which device they will use in the work environment. My view is that 'bring your own device' (byod) will ultimately extend to users insisting on bringing their own apps and even infrastructure.
In respect of this personal cloud phenomenon the likes of Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Apple are already making headway.
So we have an end-game final between enterprise and consumer cloud providers. There are many factors still to be considered, but if I had to make a bet today, those with a strong consumer brand and strong personal cloud offering will be the most likely victors.
What do you think?

It’s good to see BYOD as a counter to the big vendors bids to shape the market. However what I would really like to see is business in the driving seat so that technology is optimally deployed to suite what customers need.

Thanks for the comment Ben. Byod indeed takes the power away from everyone apart from the users.
