CxO: Survival of the luckiest
A recent article on BBC relating to the demise of the dinosaurs and the subsequent acceleration in the growth of mammals in general and humans in particular reminds us of the extent to which luck can play a part in our lives.
Smart CxOs have always known this and so typically run their own risk register and manage it with care.
But the transition from the industrial to the digital economy is akin to a tectonic shift. Consequently your risk register needs an overhaul. The problem many CxOs might face is that they are blind to the new threats. This blindness is likely to stem from a myopic focus on the existing business model and a complete lack of understanding of how technology advances have created a digital primordial soup from which grows what might seem like unthinkable business models.
Are you ready to compete with upstart organisations that treats the equivalent of your best offering as a freebie? Or considers the customer experience to be something that must not exceed two clicks?
It may be that your risk register has become your biggest risk.
