Enterprise neurogenesis
For some time it was believed that you could not teach an old dog new tricks. The evolving world of neuroscience suggests otherwise. It was thought that adults received their neural allocation at birth proceeded by a life of becoming progressively less smart as the neurons died. However it appears adults continue to grow neurons throughout their lives.
Thus there is no excuse for not adjusting to the world as it evolves around us.
Similarly organisations need to develop a neurogenesis approach to their evolution. This takes us into the arena of the lean start up. Even established organisations need to behave as if they were a start-up operation.
And each employee, no matter how long they have been locked in process servitude, in turn needs to sharpen up and develop the mind-set of a streetwise entrepreneur. This is a great opportunity for staff who are willing to learn a few new tricks.
