Greyhound or hare?
I often work with smart organisations to help them turn megatrends into competitive advantage. Such organisations recognise that market strategy is a fluid concept.
In business, whilst competence and service are highly valued, you are no more than a good-natured hobbyist if there is no market for your services.
Megatrends tend to evolve quite slowly but in a volatile market there is no way to forecast when a megatrend becomes a market / career opportunity. But when it does those that move quickest gain the most. So agility is key.
The question arises as to whether you are the greyhound with all senses locked on the market and the associated opportunities or the hare trying to sidestep the market which it sees as a threat to ‘business as usual’.
Both are agile and both have lunch in mind. The question is who is reading the menu and who is on it.
