Innovation: Do you have the right DNA?
The Harvard Business Review had a very enlightening Innovation edition. One of the articles focused on the characteristics of an innovator. I have added my take on the article in summarising the associated behaviours:
Make associations – Be able to see links between things that are not naturally linked together. Those that have a business-wide view are uniquely positioned to do this.
Observe – Note how users, customers and the market are evolving. This creates insight, which the boardroom will find valuable.
Experiment – Fail fast. Think Edison.
Network – Connect with people. This widens perspectives and creates access to more resources. It also strengthens one's political power base.
Ask tough questions – Answers are overrated.
Be creative – Innovative behaviour invariably leads to innovation.
If you believe CIO stands for Chief Innovation Officer, then you know what you have to do.
