IT, Passion and Business Transformation

On a recent visit to Romania I met with the President of their health service. He told me that their IT staff could easily make more money by working in the private sector. But they stayed because they want to improve the lives of the citizens.

Consequently they do not think in terms of IT projects, where after the delivery, they can move onto something else. These IT professionals ensure that the new IT systems driving the new business processes do what is expected.

It struck me that IT departments can move from technology managers to genuine business transformers not so much by acquiring new skills but by simply developing a genuine interest in the condition of the clients.
