HR

Humanity Revisited

The industrial era needed people to perform as cogs in the factory machine. The job of the ‘cog worker’ was to follow the process.  The job of HR was to find the cogs and ensure they performed efficiently and compliantly. Thus HR was merely an extension of procurement.

This remains the case for many organisations today. However the factory model is unable to cope with increasing disruption and so the role of people is changing from cog worker to cognitive athlete.

Cognitive athletes are critical to innovation. Innovation is critical to market relevance. Innovation and thus people are central to organisational success in these increasingly disruptive times.

HR thus needs to evolve accordingly.

Sample subthemes to explore include:

  • How to ensure talent management is represented in the c-suite.
  • How to transform the HR function to reflect today’s new realities.
  • How to create an environment that attracts and retains the best people.
