What is corporate governance?
Corporate governance is the system by which organisations are directed, overseen and held to account. It provides assurance that the organisation's assets and resources are being stewarded responsibly to create sustainable value for shareholders and other stakeholders.
Corporate governance includes risk management, accountability, (regulatory) compliance and control.
Traditionally corporate governance focused on ensuring the factory machine ran as efficiently as possible. This led to a focus on process optimisation, centralised leadership and minimising risks.
Intelligent organisations recognises the importance of governance, but instead of the focus on control the focus is on moving faster in a safe manner. Old governance is primarily focused on policing. Modern governance focuses on responsiveness and enabling.
