What is Machine learning?
Machine learning is a form of artificial intelligence that enables computer systems to identify patterns in data and improve their performance on a task without being explicitly programmed with every rule. Instead of following only fixed instructions, a machine-learning model is trained on examples and uses statistical relationships to make predictions, classifications or recommendations.
Within an intelligent organisation, machine learning can strengthen the ability to sense, decide and act. It can detect patterns that people may miss, anticipate likely outcomes and support faster, better-informed decisions. Its value, however, depends on the quality of the data, the suitability of the model and effective human oversight.
The primary advances that we are witnessing in AI today have come about because of machine learning. Whilst it gives the impression of intelligence, it is not true intelligence in that it cannot replicate, for example, attention or intention.
