What is Psychological safety?

Psychological safety is a term to describe an environment where people can question, challenge and learn without fear. In traditional organisations, given their focus on efficiency, it is unlikely that the leaders will welcome anything other than operating manual compliance.

An intelligent organisation recognises the value of psychological safety. It recognises that people need to be treated with respect. Such openness enables the organisation to better sense what is happening both within and beyond the organisation. This in turn accelerates organisational learning and ultimately leads to more effective adaptation.
