What is Talent management?

Talent management is the process of attracting, developing and retaining people whose capabilities strengthen the organisation's long-term vitality. Whilst it includes activities such as recruitment, learning, succession planning and career development, its purpose extends beyond filling roles to building the capabilities the organisation will need to thrive in the future.

Traditional organisations often view talent management as a way of ensuring key positions are staffed. Intelligent organisations take a broader perspective, recognising that talent is not simply acquired but cultivated. They create the conditions in which people continuously learn, adapt and grow, strengthening both individual potential and the organisation's collective cognitive capital. Talent management therefore becomes a strategic capability for building an organisation that can sense change, make better decisions and respond effectively to an increasingly uncertain world.
