What is AI washing?

AI washing is the practice of using AI as an excuse to make people redundant, often at scale.

These organisations are not so much looking to capitalise on AI’s productivity capabilities but trying to cost manage their way out of what is most likely a failing business model without triggering any legal / union backlash.

Such organisations differ from those that offload at scale because they genuinely believe that AI can do the work better, faster and or cheaper. These organisations are characterised by their subsequent recruitment drives to rehire when they realise AI is not quite delivering as promised.
