What is an Actor?

An actor is any entity that participates in an organisational system.

In intelligent systems, actors have some degree of autonomy and are capable of sensing, deciding and acting in response to what is happening in their environment.

Within an organisation actors include board members, staff, management, leaders, contractors and advisors.

Within the ecosystems within which the organisation operates actors include:

  • Customers

  • Citizens

  • Suppliers

  • Platform providers

  • Academic institutions

  • Regulators

  • Shareholders

  • Professional bodies.
