What is Chief Executive Officer (CEO)?

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the senior executive responsible for the overall leadership, performance and direction of an organisation. The CEO is accountable for ensuring the organisation creates sustainable value for its stakeholders.


The role of the CEO is evolving. Traditionally, CEOs focused on strategy, financial performance and operational execution. In an increasingly uncertain world, they must also ensure the organisation can continuously sense change, make timely decisions and adapt effectively.


In an Intelligent Organisation, the CEO's primary responsibility is not simply to optimise today's business, but to build an organisation that remains viable, vital and valuable over the long term.
