What is Cognitive capital?

Cognitive capital is the collective capacity of an organisation to sense, understand, decide and learn. It arises from the combination of human knowledge, experience, relationships, data, AI, processes and shared understanding that enables the organisation to make effective decisions and adapt to changing circumstances.

Unlike knowledge, which resides in individuals, documents or AI systems, cognitive capital reflects the organisation's overall ability to:

  • Convert what it senses into insight

  • Convert insight into effective action.

As organisations increasingly combine human and artificial intelligence, cognitive capital becomes a key source of adaptiveness, innovation and long-term value.
