What is Decentralised leadership?
Decentralised leadership is a model of leadership in which authority, decision-making and initiative are distributed across an organisation rather than concentrated in a small group of senior leaders. Individuals and teams are empowered to make decisions within defined boundaries, enabling the organisation to respond more quickly and effectively to changing circumstances.
Decentralised leadership does not imply the absence of governance or accountability. Rather, it relies on a shared purpose, clear principles, transparency and trust to ensure that distributed decisions contribute to the organisation's overall direction. Intelligent organisations recognise decentralised leadership as a means of increasing adaptiveness, resilience and the ability to sense, decide and act at the point where information is richest.
