What is Deep learning?

Deep learning is a form of machine learning that uses multi-layered neural networks to identify patterns in large amounts of data. Rather than relying on people to specify every feature or rule, the system learns useful representations from examples. Deep learning underpins many advances in image recognition, speech processing and generative AI.

For intelligent organisations, deep learning expands the range of activities that can be supported by machines, particularly where the data is complex or unstructured. Leaders do not need to understand the mathematics, but they should understand that the capability is learned from data rather than explicitly programmed and that its outputs can therefore be powerful without being infallible.
