What is generative AI?

Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence that creates new content, such as text, images, audio, video and software code, in response to instructions or other inputs. It learns patterns and relationships from training data and uses these to generate outputs that are statistically plausible rather than simply retrieving stored content.

Within an intelligent organisation, generative AI provides a powerful cognitive capability that can augment people across activities such as research, analysis, communication, ideation and problem-solving. Its value lies not simply in generating content, but in enabling people and AI actors to sense, decide and act more effectively.
