What is Region?
A region is a geographic area sharing economic, cultural or administrative characteristics. Regions increasingly compete as interconnected innovation ecosystems.
Smart cities, ie cities that harness information technology to improve their performance, are an established concept. We would prefer a greater focus on intelligent cities, where people are equally integrated into performance improvement.
The important point here is that regions are becoming increasingly important economically and socially. Thus, the focus needs to be on intelligent regions rather than simply smart cities.
