What is Stakeholder capital?

Stakeholder capital is the value created through an organisation's relationships with the people, organisations and communities that lie within its sphere of influence. It reflects the trust, goodwill and mutual benefit that arise when an organisation consistently creates value for its stakeholders.

Intelligent organisations recognise that their long-term viability depends on the health of the ecosystems in which they operate. They therefore seek to strengthen stakeholder capital by making decisions that benefit customers, employees, suppliers, partners, investors, regulators, communities and the natural environment. Rather than focusing solely on shareholder returns, they recognise that enduring shareholder value is a consequence of creating value for stakeholders.
