What are Weak signals?

A weak signal is an early indication of a potentially significant change whose meaning or implications are not yet clear. Weak signals are often overlooked because they are difficult to distinguish from background noise or are overshadowed by more immediate concerns.

Intelligent organisations continuously scan for weak signals, recognising that they are often the earliest indicators of emerging opportunities, threats or market shifts. By interpreting and acting on these signals before they become obvious, they can adapt ahead of competitors. Traditional organisations are more likely to overlook weak signals or recognise their significance only after they become impossible to ignore.
