What are CIO’s for?

Happy New Year to one and all.

I have been somewhat remiss in my blogging output. Oddly no one has complained(!).

You may be interested to know that I am chairing European CIO in Cannes this April and am looking forward to meeting some of Europe’s most impressive CIOs again. I had a lot of interesting feedback on my LinkedIn discussion on what should be on the agenda. The broad thought groupings were:

• CIO as IT manager
• CIO as service provider
• CIO as business partner.

I personally think these should be two / three roles and at least one of these roles is brand damaging if the CIO is to be a genuine CxO. What do you think?
